Decided to use a RaSCSI as it's easier for throwing images at. ls of the start of an iX drive produces junk as I expected  But this shows the SCSI interface is working to some degree at least. Phew. (That first item doesn't look like a boot, does it ?!)

Hold up. Are you sure this is a RISC iX disc?

I ask because that specific order of messages at the bottom - "Invalid partition table", "Error loading operating system", "Missing operating system" - is exactly what I would expect from a PC-formatted drive, both in the order of the messages and the specific wording of the messages. Specifically, I believe this is part of a MBR boot sector, commonly used with DOS.

You may want to double-check that this is actually not a PC-formatted drive!

[edit: If there's a PC disc image on the drive, that could also explain it since it could be reading from the beginning of that - though the fact that that's the first thing that actually looks readable on the drive is a little suspicious!]
