The Beeb will never report that extra memory on startup. It'll either say 16K or 32K. And it only says that on power up or control-break; on a normal break it won't report size at all.

That's an original STL board that connects to the user port in order to write.

So you can do something like

?&FE62=15?&FE60=bank*LOAD ROMIMAGE 8000

Now on control-break the ROM loaded will be visible.

On the 128K board, it handles banks 8 to 15.

If I remember correctly, the two ROM sockets on the board can handle 32K ROMs and go in slots 4/5 and 6/7
