By scouring this esteemed forum I can find lots of references dotted around to Elite with respect to hints, tips, cheats tactics etc etc.
It can be a bit of an overhead managing where they all are therefore was wondering does anyone know of a link pointing to a central repository?
Very much like the excellent BBC ROM archive, it would be a perfect landing page to someone just starting off in the game, believe me I have forgotten more hints that I care to remember. For example, I have just stumbled across the snippet below from an old copy of Micro User from Dec 1989.
lan has a tip for those who have Master 128 versions of Elite and who would like to encounter our old friend the mystery ship.
Choose a corporate state — or similar — system and keep jumping away from the planet. Eventually the planet re-appears, though usually
minus its sun. Blast everything you see and when you can't jump — while there's nothing on the scanner — you can be sure that the mystery
ship is around.
Two readers, Mark & Ben have encountered witch space without knowing what it was — they christened it Thargonia, The
clue that you are entering witch space is the way the hyperspace screen behaves: The pattern appears twice, and there you are marooned with a few Thargoids around. The trick in witch space is to destroy all the mother ships and scoop up the baby Thargons.
These then become Alien Items and — best news of all — they don't take up any room in the cargo hold. These alien items can be sold for around 64 credits when you dock at poor agri- cultural systems. To get out of witch space — only possible once the Thargoids have been destroyed — press f5 for the short range chart, choose a system and press H in the usual way.
Mark likes to mine asteroids with a rear-mounted laser — I prefer mine on the left: You pays your money and you takes your choice.
I don't currently remember if this works, most could be machine specific i.e it only works in the 6502 Co-Pro version.
I have had a wider snoop around Mark Moxon's excellent site but couldn't see anything relating to the 'landing page' analogy.
Do you think there is merit in this?
I also discovered the Micro User Elite playing guide parts 1 & 2 just incase it has been lost to the mists of time, and have attached here.
Regards, Ron
