8-bit acorn hardware • BBC Master Compact - faulty when in case [SOLVED]

This was quite a weird one, for me at least.

My Master Compact would be quite happy outside of its case, just the bare motherboard on my bench with keyboard connected & resting on top.

But if I installed it back into its bottom case, even just resting with no screws installed ... the machine would consistently fail.

Poking and prodding the board would produce intermittent results ... sometimes it'd even boot but then fail, then work again as the board was prodded.

I finally noticed the two plastic stand-offs in the bottom case. I stuck a bit of tape to one and installed the board to see where the stand-off was touching.

Examining the board where the tape was I noticed two pins that were damaged. These were pins 31 & 32 of IC22, the CF30050 I/O controller.

I reflowed the solder and ... finally, I could boot my Compact in its case.

Thought this might be interesting.

I have a YouTube video about it here:
