32-bit acorn hardware • Re: 8MB A3000

Nice work Ian, I'll definitely be interested in one of these, as and when you're ready!
I won't be making these, as a rule. Whilst this works, there's probably too much work required on the motherboard for most people anyway. The fact it sits on two sockets at once, one of which will certainly be a user-fit (MEMC replaced with a socket), then the tolerances are too much for it to be anything other than the "solder the RAM headers once it's plugged in" build. And you have to life the leg of that IC on the right and fit a wire, because of how I used the A540 IC71 PAL.

If I split the system in to two PCBs - a small board to pick up the MEMC signals (nominally this: https://github.com/IJeffray/MEMC_FFC ) it's actually easier to fit (that castellated adapter's much easier to solder than an SMT PLCC64 socket!), and the RAM header won't need changing / RAM removing. But it'll still need the reset wire strap, which is disappointing.

Ideally it needs the Atomwide PEELs properly replicating and the system redesigning around that. Hohum.
