Very off topic I know, and a bit of a long shot, but I know there are some Whovians on here and I'm not on any Dr Who forums any more...
Does anyone know if the 4-part 1984 repeat of the Dr Who story "The Five Doctors" has ever been released? It's not on I-player with all the other existing Dr Who episodes, and whilst I did write to the BBC to ask them to put it on in time for its 40th anniversary later this month, they seem to be too consumed by their own problems to deal with important matters of a Whovian nature.
Some of you will know that I have been reliving Dr Who episodes on the 40th anniversary of their original broadcast date and time, since 23rd November 2003 at 5.16pm. Normally I haven't included repeats, mainly because 1970s repeats tended to be omnibus editions and I don't generally have them in the exact edit that would have been used.
I'd like to watch the 4-part version of "The Five Doctors" on its 40th anniversary between 14th & 18th August though, but I have been having trouble tracking it down.
Ironically, the 1984 repeat is the only Dr Who story I taped during the original run, and I still have the Ferguson Videostar E120 tape, but it was recorded over decades ago. There's a split second of Hartnell at the start of the tape if you wind it right back but that's all.
I saw on U&Tube that someone has put up a compilation of the cliffhangers but it doesn't include the full opening & closing titles to each of the episodes, which is a shame.
I also saw that the "25th anniversary edition" DVD apparently contains as a special feature the full opening and closing titles to all 4 episodes, but I don't know if it's possible to play it as 4 individual full episodes. I just bought a copy anyway just in case, so time will tell (as the Kronovore said to Professor Thascales) but it will be a couple of days before it arrives so it won't leave me a lot of time if I have to try to cobble together 4 episodes using the material on the DVD.
Really & truly to relive my 1984 experience I should be watching it on a Grundig TV set like we had back then, the one with the weird rectangular remote control which was used as a Dr Who prop at one point, but there's not much chance of that either...
